Вступление России в новый век ознаменовано жестко предъявленными вызовами в таких основополагающих сферах, как экология, политика, демография, культура, экономика. По мнению автора статьи, многие проблемы оказались более актуальными и болезненными для россиян, чем для других наций. Мы острее всех почувствовали угрозу мирового терроризма, нам приходится по-новому смотреть на задачи строительства гражданского общества, особого внимания заслуживает структурная перестройка экономики. Решение этих и других социальных вопросов во многом зависит от эффективной деятельности государства.

Russia’s entry into the new century is marked by rigidly presented challenges in such fundamental areas as ecology, politics, demography, culture, and economics. According to the author of the article, many problems turned out to be more relevant and painful for Russians than for other nations. We felt the threat of world terrorism most acutely, we have to look at the tasks of building a civil society in a new way, the structural restructuring of the economy deserves special attention. The solution of these and other social issues largely depends on the effective activities of the state.
